How to Sketch a Rose

STEP 1. The easiest way to begin sketching a rose is to make a fancy style S that has a curled in tip at the top.

STEP 2. When you start sketching out the rose petals, you can begin to see how the S actually forms the base of the rose bud or center part of the rose bloom. Sketch in some nice rounded but pointed petals that has a nice center swirl.

STEP 3. Continue to sketch in more petals, but this time the petals are larger, and a bit more full looking. At this point the rose starts to take on a bloomed form.

STEP 4. Starting at the right, begin sketching out more of the rose petals. There should be a smaller shaped petal, as well as a larger shaped petal that points in the center.

STEP 5. Now that the rose is all sketched out all you have to start doing now is sketch out the leaves which are in three. Sketch in the center of the leaves like so, then proceed to the next step.

STEP 6. Once you have cleaned up the rose freeing it from mistakes, you can start sketching in the shading starting at the center of the rose, and then slowly work your way out on the first fold of the rose petal. Notice how there are light spots which are not shaded to darkly.

STEP 7. You will continue to sketch in the shading which adds detail, definition and texture to your rose. Notice the crosshatching as well which is all part of the base shading process.

STEP 8. Continue to shade in the rose petals like so, and all you have to do is follow the darkness and lightly shaded areas of the rose like you see here. Use the rose above as your guide.

STEP 9. Shade more of petals until they are all shaded in. There are lighter areas to the shading process as well as darkened areas as well.

STEP 10. Work on getting the base shading done on the leaves, and when you are done move to step eleven.

STEP 11. You will start adding your light source to the rose. Do this by simply erasing and smudging until you get the areas lighter like you see it done here on the rose.

STEP 12. Soften the rose shading process and when you're done your sketch should look like the rose you see here. I hope you enjoyed this lesson on sketching a rose.

How to Draw a Protoss

STEP 1. First draw out the basic shapes and outlines of the Protoss. Use several reference images to get the form and pose that you would like your drawing to have. Do not worry about any details and specifics at this point. Only concentrate in getting the flow of the body, arms and legs.

STEP 2. As you can see, the lines are very quick and quite messy, but they are very light and will be worked over later. Remember not to push hard with your pencil, and I would suggest not using as sharp one. Don’t rub these lines out yet, they are construction lines and they help to draw the final lines.

STEP 3. Now you can start to draw in the main lines. These can be a lot darker than the construction lines, which you work over. When drawing long flowing lines for the legs and shoulder pieces, try to draw out the line in one smooth go. A handy tip would be to rotate your page for some of these to help you get the angles right. Don’t be afraid to turn the page upside down in you have to while you draw! The red shows some help for drawing the shoulder arches, and also the flowing lines of the legs and sides.

STEP 4. Once you have all the lines you would like, you can begin shading in your Protoss. Start by finding the darkest areas and use a dark pencil like a 5B to shade them in. Don’t be afraid to make black areas in places, this will help make your drawing have more depth, and it really helps it to pop off the page, almost like 3D. The red circles show some of the darkest areas. I have added in the long flowing Predator like hair that the Protoss have. You can position this how you would like, either blowing in the wind, or completely hidden if you wish.

STEP 5. Tip: Here is a tip on shading. The way I used to shade was to just smudge everything with my fingers. While this is perfectly fine, as long as you are careful not to get finger prints all over the page, I was advised on a much better way. In this close up, you can see how the two sides are quite different. Both were shaded with a 3B pencil, but the right side has been smoothed with tortillion. You can use some tissue paper to get the same effect if you don’t have tortillion. Use this only if you want to show a smooth material, like this shiny armour. If it’s a rough material like bark, its texture is best left unsmoothed. So for this drawing, I made the armour very smooth, but the feet I left quite rough, showing that they have a rugged texture. It can help to have a combination of these in your drawings.

STEP 6. Continue to shade in all the areas of your drawing. Make the parts hidden from direct light dark, and remember to blend the dark shades to the lighter areas, especially for rounded shapes. When you are shading, some of the solid lines you had drawn may fade, just use a sharp dark pencil to go over them again, re defining them. Also add in some highlights/shines in certain places by using an eraser.

STEP 7. Here is a close up of the weapons. I did this by drawing a few single wavy lines, like fire, around the edge of where I wanted the weapon. I then shaded the out side edge of each of them, and blended them outwards. This gives the effect of light being given off.

STEP 8. And you’re done! Remember to spend as much time as you want on your drawing. Also, you don’t have to make it an exact replica of the race in the game, you can change and modify things to make it more personal. Don’t forget to add in a shadow and sign and date your work

How to Draw Black Spiderman

STEP 1. Begin with a simple sketch. Remember, use a sharp pencil for this.

STEP 2. Your sketch should look like this , if it doesn't , try to repair it, the sketch is the base of the whole drawing, if the sketch doesn't look good, neither will the drawing, .

STEP 3. Things got difficult here, but I thought of an easy way to draw his web model , and it was actually really easy . On the 2nd image you'll have to zoom on the head, my scanner didn't get the lines there. What you don't need to do is press hard with your pencil , you'll seen in the next step why.

STEP 4. Just a simple way to drawing the white web model on the black suit. After toning, use a sharp eraser to make the model on the gray background (although I recommend using and electric eraser). This is why i asked you not to press very hard, so it'll be easy to erase the black lines .

STEP 5. Now that the fun is over, here comes hell. Use the technique I have showed you in the previous step to make his head. First tone, erase, tone some more .

STEP 6. Continue filling the spaces between the web model. For the eye, just zoom and try to cop what i did there, because I simply have no idea how to explain that.

STEP 7. Nothing special here, use the same technique you used for the head. For the suit texture I made some random dots.

STEP 8. Those parts are pitch black, you go do that , c'mon it's not hard .

STEP 9. Next we are (well actually only you because I have already done it :P) going to do the chest area. This will be hard because I will not be able do guide you here, because of the light , reflection and point of view, it was hard for me to figure out what was happening there, so I just copied the model

STEP 10. Using a circular motion, slowly shade teh leg , down to his boot .

STEP 11. First boot .Again, make the web design like I showed you, it's just a matter of time , and patience .

STEP 12. When drawing the other hand, use a very sharp pencil, it's got a lot of small details .

STEP 13. Same technique, different leg. You're finished with Spidey ,all you have to do now is the background , which is a real pain.

STEP 14. Now the background. Start with toning, actually it's only toning, tone until you get what I got, use darker and darker pencils . If you made it this far, you're awesome !
